Madison Fireplace and Patio was established in 1986 by Thomas and Mary Stallings. It was originally located in old downtown Madison across from the Illinois Central rail road tracks. The original name for the business was Madison Fireplace and Door Company. Having come from a background in garage door hanging, Mr. Stallings decided to use his background knowledge to help ease the transition into a completely new industry. After a couple of years, the company made the switch from selling doors to selling furniture and the company adopted its current name.
In 1997, Madison Fireplace and Patio moved to its current location on Highland Colony Parkway for some much needed space due to the expansion of the business. The business now had three buildings to operate out of. However, Mr. Stallings created a new business out of one of these buildings; Madison Sports Outdoors. Madison Sports Outdoors was created out of Mr. Stallings fondness for hunting and fishing. The business specialized in hunting and fishing equipment and carried sporting goods as well. After a couple of years of lower than expected sales, Madison Sports Outdoors was turned into the new furniture show room for Madison Fireplace and Patio.
